Eric Jamal Rising as a Songwriter and Rapper
Meet our rising artist Eric Jamal who is a 27-year-old singer and songwriter from a small town in Mississippi. Eric’s love for music began in his junior year when he started writing songs. During the time, he also had a passion for basketball and even made the varsity team at school. But unfortunately Eric’s life took a turn when he found out that his step-dad started to lose his sight and his mom had to get another hernia surgery. Not only that, but Eric had two younger siblings who could not take care of themselves. So Eric decided to leave behind his basketball career and take care of his family instead.
After taking care of his family, Eric fell into a depression because of everything that was happening in his life. Later in the year, his teacher assigned to the class a homework assignment regarding The Great Depression. The class had to write either a rap or a poem about the topic and perform it to the class. As it if it was like a movie itself, that was the day Eric Jamal wrote his first rap song. Eric then performed the song in front of his whole class and they absolutely loved it.
Eric Jamal states in the interview, “Before I knew it, I found myself writing a lot to cope with depression for a while, and I found a love with music.”
Eric Jamal’s most successful track is “Roller Coaster” where the song has been featured on the radio and has gained more than 19k streams. Another few successful songs are “90’s Baby” and “Anyway.”
